Stepping into work

Our 2018 cohort of pre-apprentices

Joe, Incomes Management pre-apprentice, said “It’s not been what I’ve expected at all, I’ve really enjoyed my time here, I can’t wait for the upcoming months.”

Our pre-apprenticeship scheme offers a six month paid role in various departments across CKH such as Customer Services, Incomes Management and Communications, which allows young people aged 16-24 to develop valuable work skills.

Over the last seven years, we’ve helped over 100 young people to start their careers, with 80% of our pre-apprentices moving on into work or back into education. Claire Higgins, Chief Executive, said: “We are very proud of our pre-apprentice scheme which is an excellent starting point for young people looking to build their careers.”

Our current pre-apprentices are over three months into their placements and we’re excited to say that they’re really enjoying it so far. One of this year’s cohort has even gone on to secure a full time apprenticeship with us! Our aim is to allow these young people to develop valuable skills as well as to improve their teamwork abilities and confidence - ultimately building the foundations for their careers, opening many doors for them after the placement.

The group are sharing their experiences in regular blog posts. Follow their stories here or via our Facebook page.

Nicole, Estate Ranger pre-apprentice, said: “It’s really great to be involved in such an active and cheerful team and I feel very privileged to be a part of it. I’ve been learning a lot from what my colleagues talk about, they really give me the motivation to work harder every day.”
